05 - Estonia - Types of institution
A university is an educational institution where higher education is
acquired according to the Bachelor’s study, Master’s study and Doctoral
study curricula in several fields of study. In an educational
institution that is a part of the structure of a university,
professional higher education may also be offered.
An
institution of professional higher education is an university-type
educational institution where a student can acquire higher education
according to the professional higher education curriculum. Since the
year 2003, also Master’s study related to curricula specified by the
Government of the Republic may be undertaken in an institution of
professional higher education in cooperation with a university. An
institution of professional higher education may independently conduct
Master’s study pursuant to curricula of theology and military studies.
Vocational schools
kutseõppeasutus may in exceptional cases also offer professional higher education.
