Certification of Studies in Higher Technological Education
Each Technologiko Ekpaideftiko Idryma - TEI (Technological Education Institute) department grants
the respective single degree, which may be distinguished in separate sectors and/or
directions/specialisations.
The degree sets forth the Technological Education Institute, Department and, if any, the
Specialisation/Direction as well as the exact mark of the graduate and the corresponding qualification
(5.00-6.49 “Good”; 6.50-8.49 “Very good”; and 8.50-10.00 “Excellent”). 5,00-6,49 «Good», 6,50-8,49
«Very Good», 8,50-10,00 «Excellent». All grades are calculated and registered with an approximation
of two decimals of the integer number.
There is no special procedure for the certification of studies or part of them, at public Higher
Technological Education Institutions. The diplomas signed by the President of each institution and the
Department Head, as well as the certificates of study signed by the Department Head are considered
to represent certification in themselves.

Certification of Studies in Higher University Education
Each University department grants the respective single degree, which may be distinguished in
directions/specialisations. There is no particular certification procedure of the studies or part of the
studies in public university institutes. The degrees are signed by the Rector, the President and the
Secretary of the relevant Department, and they are regarded as certification in themselves.
The degree sets forth the University Institute, Faculty, Department and, if any, the
Specialisation/Direction as well as the exact mark of the graduate and the corresponding qualification
(“Good”, “Very good” and “Excellent”), as these result from the average of all marks received on the
courses required for the award of the degree. Marks range from 0 to 10, with 5 being the minimum
pass mark.

Certification of Postgraduate Study Programmes
In addition to planning and organising postgraduate study programmes, Universities are also
competent to grant and certify postgraduate degrees (postgraduate specialisation degree and doctoral
degree). In case a Technological Education Institute (TEI) participates in the operation of a University
Programme of Postgraduate Studies (ΠΜΣ/PMS) or co-organises ΠΜΣ/PMS with a University, the
relevant degrees are granted by Universities.
In the case where Greek Universities cooperate with acknowledged similar institutions abroad in order
to organise and run joint Postgraduate Study Programmes or for the elaboration of a doctoral thesis,
the Postgraduate Specialisation Degrees and Doctoral Degrees granted are considered by right
equivalent to those granted by the associated universities running such joint Postgraduate Study
Programmes.
The way in which the successful completion of postgraduate studies is certified and the type and grade
of the awarded postgraduate specialisation degrees and doctoral degrees are specified in the internal
regulation of the ΠΜΣ/PMS or the Institution in question.
For the degree’s mark to be calculated, the marks received on all courses required for the degree are
taken into account and the general mark is the average of the above marks. In certain departments,
the mark ascribed to the thesis may be multiplied by a specific factor. The ΜΔΕ/MDE signed by the
Rector, President and the Secretary of the relevant Department indicates usually the exact mark of the
postgraduate student and the corresponding qualification.
In the case of doctoral candidates, insofar as the Examining Committee approves the doctoral thesis,
candidates are awarded their Doctoral Degrees (Didaktoriko Diploma - ΔΔ/DD) by the General
Assembly of the Department in its ordinary composition. The ΔΔ/DD, which is also signed by the
Rector, the President and the Secretary of the relevant Department, sets forth the qualification of the
thesis as arising from the judgement of the Examining Committee (“Good”, “Very good”, "Excellent”).
