Lithuania - Introduction
Higher education embraces: university level (undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and Master’s degree study
programmes, specialized professional study programmes, integrated study programmes, doctoral,
residency and post-graduate art study programmes), and undergraduate non-university study
programmes. According to LEC, higher education (both, university and non-university) belongs to
educational level 6 (according to ISCED 97, university higher education belongs to level 5A and nonuniversity
higher education belongs to level 5B). Doctoral study programmes lead to advanced
research qualification. Art post-graduate study programmes (Meno aspirantūra)are devoted to
specialization of artists and residency is designed exclusively for the preparation of medical doctors in
very specific areas or fields of medicine.
