14 - Netherlands - Progression of students
At the end of their first year – the propaedeutic year – students in higher education following bachelor’s
programmes are advised as to whether they should continue with their course or switch to another. At
universities, the propaedeutic year serves as a means of orientating, referring and selecting students.
Universities are free to decide whether to hold propaedeutic examinations.
